The three players won two league titles with Amakhosi in the last three seasons, but the club felt it was time for them to move on after failing to agree terms on new deals
Kaizer Chiefs have officially announced that Mandla Masango, Tefu Mashamaite and Itumeleng Khune will no longer be part of the team going forward.
This comes after the club failed to agree terms with the three stars over new deals, according to Kaizer Motaung.
The Amakhosi chairman revealed that they had been in talks with the trio for over year, and he admitted that their high salary demands forced the club to allow them to move on.
“For instance, we tabled an offer for Mandla and he came back with a counter offer… we tabled another offer and he again came back with a counter offer,” Motaung told reporters gathered at Naturena on Tuesday.
Masango spent eight years at Chiefs, but it was last season where he really raised his hand and reclaimed his place in the Bafana setup.
Khune on the other hand, arrived at the Naturena-based club as a 13-year-old back in 1999, and had been with the club’s first team for 11 years since he was promoted in 2004.
Mashamaite joined the Glamour Boys from Bidvest Wits four seasons ago, and despite struggling for game time in his first season at the club, he continued to be patient until he was given a fair chance to prove his worth when Stuart Baxter returned to South Africa at the start of the 2012/13 campaign.
