Bobby Motaung : No Second Chance for Siyanda Xulu

Bobby Motaung explains reasoning behind Siyanda Xulu decision

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung is adamant that Siyanda Xulu’s time at the club is up following his transfer listing.

The defender was subject to a fair deal of criticism during a disappointing 2015-2016 season where he failed to make an impact.

‘Bobsteak’ clarified his stance by stating that he was confident in the recommendation made by the club’s technical team.

“From the reports we got from the technical staff and the recommendations and what we discussed with the player, it’s only fair that we also release a quality player of his calibre to play elsewhere,” Motaung told reporters.

“Because as you know it’s going to be tougher next season so it’s a two-way thing. The player must be comfortable to compete.”

Motaung would not be drawn into whether ill-discipline hampered Xulu’s return to his boyhood club following a stint in Russia.

“I can’t comment on those [accusations],” the Chiefs football manager answered when question the the defender’s off-the-field behaviour.

“The recommendations we got were because of the playing aspect of it in terms of [his] contribution.”

Motaung went on to contextualise the decision that had been taken by citing Xulu’s injury problems as a reason for his poor showing.

“Unfortunately, he got injured during the season and adaptation was a bit difficult for him and it’s only fair for a player to go somewhere to compete and express himself, instead of keeping him here when he’s also unhappy and also there are doubts from the technical point of view,” he explained.
