Mamelodi Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates

Mamelodi Sundowns beat Orlando Pirates to sign Lucky Mohomi of Free State Stars can confirm that Mamelodi Sundowns have beaten Orlando Pirates for the services of midfielder Lucky Mohomi from Free State Stars.

The 25-year-old, who was also on the wanted-list of Pirates, has signed a three-year contract with Sundowns according to an official at Chloorkop.

This website broke the news of Sundowns’ interest back in early May, and the move has now been sealed. The Mamelodi-born midfielder is touted as a suitable replacement for Bongani Zungu, who is leaving for Portugal.

“It’s a done deal. Mohomi is a Sundowns player. There was no agent involved but the boy’s parents were present during negotiations,” the official tells

Efforts to get hold of Motumi’s agent Abbie Rasimphi proved futile after he failed to pick up our calls or return our messages.

Mohomi made 23 league appearances for Ea Lla Koto last season and scored three goals.


Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns tracking Free State Stars’ Lucky Mohomi has learnt that Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are keeping a close eye on Free State Stars midfielder Lucky Mohomi.

The Mamelodi born midfielder has enjoyed a good start to life in the Premier Soccer League, managing three goals in 19 Absa Premiership starts this season.

Mohomi joined Ea Lla Koto from Garankuwa United at the beginning of the season, and still has two years left on his contract with the Bethlehem-based outfit.

The 25-year-old’s agent Abbie Rasimphi, from Liberate Resources, has refused to comment on the possibility of his client moving to Gauteng next season.

“I am not aware of anything related to such move,” says Rasimphi.

“If there is interest in the boy, I am sure the teams know the procedure to follow with Free State Stars.”
