black people are not human beings

zilleDA thinks blacks aren’t human – Mbete

The ANC’s chairperson was in the DA stronghold of Midvaal hoping to win back the municipality.

ANC national chairperson Baleka Mbete thinks her party needs to shift gear from door-to-door campaigning to focus on undecided voters.

She also lashed out at the opposition DA, accusing the party of believing that black people were not humans.

Mbete, who was accompanied by Gauteng ANC chairperson Paul Mashatile, Sedibeng ANC regional chairperson Simon Mofokeng and ANC Midvaal mayoral candidate Tefo Molakeng, was at the Sicelo primary school in Midvaal to drum up support for the ANC in the upcoming local government elections.

Speaking in isiZulu, Mbete told ANC supporters that what was left now was to target undecided voters.

“We have said everything,” Mbete said. “We have launched the manifestos. We have gone door-to-door.”

Mbete said Midvaal, the only DA-controlled municipality in Gauteng, would never again be DA.

“Our people are not fools,” Mbete said. “Our people are tired of the DA. They have experienced the DA … The ANC cares,” she said.

Mashatile vowed that the ANC would change the lives of people in Midvaal.

“We want to make sure that people in Midvaal get houses,” he said. “We don’t want to hear the province wants to build houses but the municipality is not making land available,” Mashatile said.

The ANC has identified Midvaal as a must-win municipality.

“I think the sooner they [DA] are out of here and the ANC comes in, the better,” Mbete told the gathering.

The Sunday Times in an interview with Molakeng reported that “at the heart of his campaign lies the claim that the DA is perpetuating apartheid’s segregation of Midvaal”.

He said he would allocate land near the CBD to black people to counter this.

The ANC has been working to integrate Midvaal with neighbouring municipalities to create a metro. The more populous neighbouring Emfuleni municipality is an ANC stronghold. He defended the move, despite the DA charging that it would result in service delivery going backwards and it being a cynical attempt to wrest Midvaal from them. He said it would save money and improve delivery.
