Jomo Sono explains why Kaizer Chiefs did not sign Charlton Mashumba

Jomo Sono has revealed to KickOff.com why the Charlton Mashumba to Kaizer Chiefs move never happened.

Amakhosi’s interest in the Zimbabwean striker was well known, but a move never materialised, and Lewis Macha and Mitchell Katsvairo have now arrived at Naturena to bolster the forward positions, while Emmanuel Letlotlo has been promoted.

According to the Jomo Cosmos owner, Chiefs football manager Bobby Motuang made him wait too long for their formal offer for Mashumba.

“Kaizer Chiefs didn’t make a concrete offer for Charlton Mashumba. The only thing they did was to tell me they were very interested in the player,” ‘Bra J’ tells KickOff.com.

“They kept me waiting for a long time. I waited and waited but there was no follow-up, contact or anything. So I couldn’t wait forever. Highlands Park made an offer and I sold him to them.”

Mashumba was unveiled alongside Collins Mbesuma on a three-year contract as the new strike-force for the Lions of the North, who are back in the PSL after 24 years.

Highlands have also signed Thanduyise Khuboni, Eddie Ngalo, Brandon Theron, Khethukuthula Zwane, Edwin Sitayitayi, JP van der Merwe, Augustine Mbara, Seun Ledwaba, Junior Sibande and Lebogang Ditsele.

Cosmos, meanwhile, are preparing for like back in the First Division following their relegation on the final day of last season.
