Kaizer Chiefs should have given Wits Benrard Parker to sign Sibusiso Vilakazi’ says ‘Cellular
An ex-Kaizer Chiefs player believes his former club made an unforgettable blunder by not agreeing to Bidvest Wits’ request to send Bernard Parker their way in exchange for Sibusiso Vilakazi.
Wits wanted Parker and George Lebese to move to the Clever Boys in exchange for the 26-year-old former PSL Footballer of the Season, which was something Amakhosi were not prepared to do.
‘Vila’ has now signed a three-year deal with Mamelodi Sundowns after cash plus Cuthbert Majlaila and Mogakolodi Ngele went to Milpark in exchange.
“What Chiefs did is a story. Parker yes, Lebese no. They should have let Parker go to Wits. As a second striker Parker is no longer the same, he is not scoring enough goals for us. His performance has decreased, there is no consistency in his game,” Humphrey ‘Cellular’ Mlwane tells KickOff.com.
Mlwane explains that because of the age factor, 30-year-old Parker has lost his pace, while Vilakazi is in his prime.
“I’m not saying the guy [Parker] is finished, all I’m saying is that there is no consistency in his game. In my opinion they should have swapped him for Vilakazi because Vila’s still got another four to five years to play,” he adds.
“What sets the two players apart is age and brilliance. In terms of being a second striker, Vilakazi is a very brilliant finisher. For me, Vilakazi is a complete number 10, he is very good in terms of getting into the box. He is very smart.”
Mlwane believes only a big-name signing like Tokelo Rantie will heal the pain in the hearts of Amakhosi fans of losing Vilakazi to main title rivals Sundowns.
Cellular says Chiefs management must try everything in their power to bring the Bournemouth striker to Naturena before closing the cheque book because the current squad is not strong enough to bring smiles to the Amakhosi faithful.
“The strikers that they have, we are not very sure that they will give us goals. These new players, we don’t know them. I think they should get Tokelo Rantie because he’s got pace. Well, there are other situations where he misses easy chances, but for me he is a winner. He has helped Bafana Bafana on many occasions,” Mlwane concludes.
