As the race to win the hearts and minds of voters draws to a close ahead of the elections‚ Economic Freedom Fighters’ leader Julius Malema met with Thabo Mbeki at former president’s Houghton home on Monday.
The party’s national spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said the EFF was on a door-to-door mission when he dropped in on Mbeki.
“We met with the former president to officially introduce the EFF leadership to him and we were warmly welcomed in his home. However he made it clear to us that his vote is a secret‚” Ndlozi said.
He added that the EFF had progressive conversations with the former president but refused to say if the former president was at all interested in joining the red berets.
Mbeki has been fairly quiet when it comes to campaigning ahead of the elections. He has not commented on the meeting with Malema.
