Kaizer Chiefs’ new Zambian striker, Lewis Macha played a trick on SABC Sport famous presenter Thomas Mlambo, telling him he does not speak much English before a show Wednesday.
Macha was on Sports at 10, and before interviewing him, Mlambo told viewers that they should be patient as he tries to get answers from Macha who had alerted that he struggles to communicate in English.
But when the interview started, Macha was fairly eloquent and gave clear answers in English.
Macha, whose recruitment to Amakhosi raised some eyebrows as no one had really ever heard of him, made a dream start to his career at the Naturena based team when he scored the second goal in a 2-0 Carling Black Label Champion Cup win over Orlando Pirates last weekend.
He said he feels at home in South Africa. “I feel like I am home. It is different from being in Mozambique where they use just one language…
“Scoring that goal was an achievement for me. I was really happy. It was not easy. I am not just a good header, my shooting is also good,” he said.
He said playing in front of such a big crowd was a great experience for him. “I was excited and nervous. I saw so many people and I thought this is my day, I must show them what I can do,” he explained.
Macha also revealed that he has always been a Chiefs fan, and joining them was a realisation of a long held dream.
“My goal (this season) is to score goals. Chiefs are my team, from when I was young. So it is a dream come true for me to be here.”
