Former Orlando Pirates midfielder, Steve Lekoelea, doesn’t think Kaizer Chiefs have signed enough top quality players in the transfer window to mount a serious title challenge in the new PSL campaign.
Kaizer Chiefs finished fifth in last season’s Absa Premiership and failed to win any silverware over the course of the campaign and, when asked about who he considers to be this season’s title contenders, Lekoelea omitted Chiefs from the list of teams that he expects to be in the running.
“It’s too early to tell who will be favourites for the title, but I would say Sundowns, Pirates and SuperSport look the best,” he told Soccer Laduma. “I don’t think Chiefs will be able to win it.”

To explain his sentiments, Lekoelea argued that Chiefs’ failure to make any marquee signings so far in the transfer window shows that they lack the quality to compete with other title hopefuls.
“They didn’t really sign any good players,” he continued. “They signed ordinary players, unlike Pirates and Sundowns. They need more quality signings. Pirates have signed some good players, like Kutumela from Baroka and a number of other good players.”
