Steve Komphela to be Fired?
Kaizer Chiefs coach, Steve Komphela will always be a scapegoat for the club’s poor performances, and after the 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City, fans will be questioning why he failed to start his new signings in the game, except for one of them.

But the first thing fans need to take into account is that, if the new players aren’t performing, any coach would have left them out of the team, not just Komphela.
There’s a lot more to it than what meets the supporters’ eyes. Komphela clearly sees his old crop of players as better quality compared to the new players at the club. Therefore, he would rather play them, knowing what they have to offer on the pitch.
A despondent Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune asked the supporters to remain patient with the team after another lacklustre performance got them knocked out of the MTN8.
Matthew Sim’s solitary goal at Cape Town Stadium on Friday night won Cape Town City a semi-final place in the knockout competition, and scratches the first trophy off the list of possibilities for Chiefs this season.
Khune cut a dour figure after the game, staring blankly into the distance before the post-match press conference began as the reality of two losses in two matches at the start of this season started to sink in.
But the Chiefs captain had a message for the fans, whose frustrations were also clear to see throughout the match as the Amakhosi attack struggled to really test Shu-Aib Walters in the City goal.
“On behalf of the club I just want to say to the fans to be patient with us, things are not going well so far but a big team like Kaizer Chiefs always bounces back and we’ll surely make them proud in the next coming games,” he said.
“We still have a lot to play for, the season is still long, and we still have Telkom Knockout and Nedbank to fight for and we well do well and make them happy because that’s what they deserve.”
Khune added: “For us to be knocked out in the first round of the MTN8, a big team like Kaizer Chiefs deserves better. We threw everything at Cape Town City, we couldn’t get anything out of it, but we gave it our all and we are disappointed not to get the result.”
Chiefs’ next Absa Premiership game is only on September 14 against Platinum Stars at FNB Stadium.
