The Brazilians were thrashed 3-0 by Bidvest Wits in the 2016 MTN8 Cup final at the Mbombela Stadium over the weekend
The defeat has left a dejected spell on Mamelodi Sundowns as they had hoped to go into their Caf Champions League final with domestic success.
It’s not a something to be alarmed about according to Downs midfielder Teko Modise, who said they just displayed a weak performance on the day.
“Look the best team won at the end of the day. We displayed a weak performance and they were on top of their game. That is not a matter to be alarmed about except for the pain of losing a final,” Modise told his personal website.
The ‘General’ says they have to lift their heads up and prepare for Egyptians Zamalek in the first-leg of the Champions League final set for next Friday October 14 at home and the second-leg a week later in Cairo.
“There is a tough challenge that awaits us in the CAF Champions League final. We cannot hang ourselves over one competition. We have to lift our heads up and prepare for the next final,” Modise said.
The 33-year-old has been a bit-part player in the club’s African campaign and came off the bench in the 2-0 second-leg win over Zambia’s Zesco United two weeks ago.
