Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has hinted that he may look to sign a deadly goalscorer in the January transfer window.
Komphela has six registered strikers at his disposal this season but has only seen a return of three goals from that group – one from Michelle Katsvairo and two from Bernard Parker, both scored in the last two games.
Lorenzo Gordinho and George Lebese are still the club’s top scorers with three goals apiece after 18 matches in the first half of the season.
“Come January, listen, any team at any given time will always be looking to complete the puzzle and as we know at Chiefs the biggest challenge has been scoring goals,” Komphela admitted on SuperSport.
“Parker has scored in the past two matches which gave us a bit of a reprieve, Shabba as well. [But] if we can get a consistent goalscorer, they make the difference.
“Compliment as well to Parker and Shabba, they did tremendously well, they had a great effect on the game [against Golden Arrows].”
Komphela accepted the invitation to send a holiday message to the fans, as well as offer some more ‘Komphela parlance’.
“It’s not Komphela parlance, I don’t know who makes me say these things but whatever gives me such wisdom I appreciate, that’s not me, I’m only a spokesperson. Maybe it’s only the mouth uttering the words but the brains behind it, nobody knows who says all those,” he mused.
“Merry Christmas to everybody, we wish them a happy new year, may they spend quality time with family and friends.
“And to Amakhosi supporters, we’re still working on the project, there’s still a lot of work to be done and we appreciate he support. And for those ones who felt we could do better, they knew the quality we possess and we appreciate that.
“We don’t only appreciate the black side, the white side as well [good and bad]. So both sides are making you a better person, maybe praying more for wisdom as compared to less problems.”
