Kaizer Chiefs could potentially lose five of their ‘big fish’ for free at the end of the season if they don’t manage to secure contract renewals in the coming months.
The Amakhosi have a host of star players who have now entered into the last six months of their respective deals at Naturena, making them eligible to sign pre-contracts elsewhere if they are approached by other potential suitors.
As reported in this week’s issue of Soccer Laduma, Chiefs currently have Willard Katsande, Lorenzo Gordinho, Erick Mathoho, Tsepo Masilela and George Maluleka all in their last six months, having not yet been able to tie them down for the future.
Chiefs have lost numerous players in similar circumstances in recent years, with the likes of Tefu Mashamaite, Mandla Masango, Reyaad Pieterse and Reneilwe Letsholonyane all having left for free at the end of the previous two seasons, and Chiefs fans will be hoping that they won’t see the same this year.
Katsande’s talks with Chiefs have been going for some time without a solution being found, while Mathoho has attracted interest from elsewhere and Maluleka recently opened up discussions. Gordinho is currently heading for a trial in Denmark and Masilela’s talks are expected to get underway soon.
