The Time Bucs’ New Coach ‘Tried’ To Sign Zlatan

Orlando Pirates have a new coach and he is Sweden’s Kjell Jonevret. Did you know that he “tried” to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic a few years ago?

The 55-year-old was unveiled as the Buccaneers’ new tactician earlier this morning by Dr Irvin Khoza himself, and his arrival was one that was largely unexpected.

Jonevret is relatively unknown in South Africa as he has never coached outside of Scandinavia, but he has worked with the likes of Lance Davids and Siyabonga Nomvethe before.

The Swede met “Ibra” while on international duty with Sweden back in 2013, when the striker was still playing for PSG, and he said he tried to convince him to sign for Jonevret’s Danish club Viking Stavanger.

Here is his joking tweet below, which roughly translates to: “Did what I can to bring a new player to Stavanger but he was difficult to persuade, strange!”

He did something similar after he met John Barnes, and that tweet loosely translated to: “Thought we found a forward but he will need to work out a lot in the winter!”
