Perhaps Kaizer Boss Motaung is losing patience with Komphela
Steve Komphela took over a very successful Kaizer Chiefs outfit after the team had just won the league and cup double under the guidance of Stuart Baxter. Baxter was a tactical master who got the club’s faithful accustomed to winning, while breaking all sorts of records. What made him special was that he rarely lost to Pirates and Sundowns.
What makes a successful coach at Mzansi’s big clubs is winning trophies and beating the other big clubs, Sundowns and Pirates. Komphela has failed at both, losing to Sundowns in a cup final, also in the league and is yet to beat Pirates in an official match.
Ultimately, if Komphela wants to stay on at Chiefs, he needs to win the Nedbank cup or the league or both. Not even beating one of his main rivals will buy him time, he needs to win trophies because that is what Kaizer Chiefs is all about, which is something he is yet to achieve in his career.
Perhaps Kaizer Motaung is losing patience with Komphela, despite initially wanting him to succeed as a former Amakhosi player and as a fellow countryman.
