Kaizer Chiefs sent tongues wagging last night when they sent out a press release confirming an ‘important announcement’ that will be made this week.
Chiefs say that the club’s chairman, Kaizer Motaung, will address the media on Thursday afternoon at 13h00, although the nature of his address is unknown at this stage.
The Amakhosi fell out of the title race over the weekend as it was confirmed that they will go two seasons without a single trophy for the first time in around 20 years and now just have pride to play for over the course of their last three games.
With Steve Komphela coming under pressure from the club’s fanbase, the prospect of an announcement this week has led some to come to the conclusion that his time at the club may be coming to an end, however, that is unlikely to be the case given the fact that he still has one year left to run on his contract.
The Siya crew did report this week that Kaizer Motaung Jnr is expected to take on a role at the club in the near future, potentially as CEO and his appointment could also be a reason for the announcement.
Chiefs’ last non-game related conference was to announce their partnership with Toyota, with a new sponsor also a possibility as for the reason for the announcement.
The crew will look into the situation at Naturena to try and gain some clarity ahead of Thursday’s conference and a new sponsorship deal is the most likely situation.
