Cape Town – Mamelodi Sundowns played out to a 0-0 draw in Wednesday’s CAF Champions League first leg first round tie against Rwanda’s Rayon Sports in Kigali.
Sundowns started well in the opening 15 minutes and went close as the mercurial Percy Tau struck an effort from distance which went just wide of the mark for the visitors.
Despite dominating possession, Rayon came close as a shot whistled not far wide of goalkeeper Denis Onyango’s goal just after the half an hour mark.
It remained cagey and defensive throughout the opening 45 minutes although just after the break Sirino threatened as he saw his strike palmed away by the home team’s number one in goal.
Coach Pitso Mosimane opted for an attacking change in the second half as he brought on big money signing Jeremy Brockie. However, it was the hosts who again went close as they rattled the woodwork from a free-kick.
In a clash of few real opportunities, Kekana was nearly the hero at the death for the outfit from Pretoria. After good build up play by the away team, the veteran midfielder sent in a powerful strike that was again well saved by Rayon’s keeper.
With the clock ticking down there was very little goalmouth action from both sides, as it ended 0-0 in Rwanda’s capital.
