Mamelodi Sundowns’ new signing, Jose Ali Meza has been seen sporting Percy Tau’s number 22 during training, raising many eyebrows about the current situation at the Chrlookop-based club.
Tau has been heavily linked with a move away from Masandawana in the past months and as the transfer window quickly approaches, talks about his exit have escalated fast.
English Premier League outfit, Brighton and Hove have reportedly tabled an offer for the playmaker, although Tau and his camp have been left frustrated by the lengthy negotiations.
According to Siya sources, the 24-year-old is not in camp with the Brazilians who are said to be in Rustenburg preparing for their upcoming fixtures in July, which includes the CAF Champions League competition.
With that being said, Sundowns’ latest Instagram post of Razak Brimah and Meza, shows that the Venezuelan is wearing Tau’s number 22 on his shorts, which may indicate that the Brazilians have since given the number to Meza.
Although, it is worth being said that if Tau is still at the club in the new season, the Brazilians may have made plans to give another number, although it is unlikely given all that has been said about the player’s immediate future.
Sundowns’ recently revealed that they will not stand in the way of Tau making the move to Europe.
“Mamelodi Sundowns have stated on numerous occasions over the past 18 months that it is committed to ensuring that Percy Tau plays and pursues his career in Europe,” the club said.
Now, it remains to be seen whether the club has indeed handed over the number 22 jersey number to Meza as they prepare for Tau’s exit in the coming weeks.
