Khama Billiat’s departure from Mamelodi Sundowns appears to have a left a bitter taste in most of the Yellow Nation fans’ mouths.
Sundowns supporters had a meltdown last week Friday, following a radio interview the Zimbabwean had with a local radio station. In the interview, Billiat thanked the chairman of Kaizer Chiefs, Kaizer Motaung Sr, for granting him the opportunity to play for such a big club, and mentioned that it had always been a dream of his to don the black and gold of Soweto.
This appears to have not sat well in the ears of Masandawana fans, who took to social media to vent their anger.
Supporters Club caught up with Ka Bo Yellow fan Oupa Baloyi to find out what his take on the situation is.
“I feel that it was very unprofessional of Khama not to send a ‘thank you’ message, not only to the supporters but the club as a whole,” he said.
“Sundowns is a brand, a brand that made him the player that he is today. We made him a star and not even a single message to us. I’m not in any way condoning this, but I’m worried that Sundowns fans will boo him against Chiefs in our opening game of the new season next week Saturday (4 August). We are against booing at Downs and the PSL, but I’m worried it might happen.
“Look, Percy Tau went to Europe with our blessings because he did a noble thing and sent us a message. Speaking of Tau, I am happy for his new endeavours and I wish him the best of everything. Despite him blocking me on Twitter, I will still follow his journey. It’s a good move for him and we have no doubt, as Masandawana faithful, that he will do well.
“He received a lucrative deal, that’s already a sign that he will do really well.”
