LIONEL MESSI was reportedly left at Anfield by the Barcelona team bus after the La Liga giants were knocked out of the Champions League by Liverpool
Having been so influential in the first leg, Messi was ineffectual on Merseyside as Barca threw away a three-goal lead.
Messi had netted a brace in the first leg at the Nou Camp but struggled on a difficult night for the visitors.
The attacker was held behind by anti-doping testers and had to make alternative arrangements to catch up with his team-mates.
It’s the second year in a row that Barcelona have let a three-goal lead slip in the Champions League.
Last season, the Catalan giants took a 4-1 lead to Roma in the quarter-finals.
But a 3-0 win for the Serie A side in the second leg knocked Ernesto Valverde’s side out.
And the boss admits it hurts having suffered another painful defeat at Anfield.
“They [Liverpoo] were better and we have to accept it,” he said.
“The scoreline was 4-0 and when that’s the case there are no excuses.
Their second goal hurt us massively and the third one came in straight after that.
“They played well, and we have to congratulate them for reaching the final.
“The most painful thing is that this has happened before. It’s very painful for us, especially for our fans.
“It’s the second year in a row they’ve experienced this.”We want to really concentrate to avoid this.”
