Stuart Baxter will be crossing his fingers and hoping for the best after one of his key Bafana Bafana players limped off the field after scoring a brace in Europe over the weekend.
Percy Tau, who was recently crowned as the Proximus League Player of the Season in Belgium, scored his 12th and 13th goals for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on Saturday, but was unable to finish the game after sustaining a knee injury in a collision with another player.
Tau has directly contributed to 26 goals in all competitions for RUSG since joining them on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, but his latest brace – in a 3-3 draw with Royal Excel Mouscron – may have come at a price as he waits to find out the extent of his injury.
According to Walfoot.be, the Bafana star said after the game, “It’s a shame that I could not finish the game, a player fell on my knee and it was better to take no chances… We’ll see after the exams, but you know, I do not have to think about the African Cup playing, I can hurt myself in training anytime.”
The website did point out, however, that Tau did seem to be walking without problems after the game – something that bodes well for Baxter and Bafana – though it remains to be seen if he will play in either of RUSG’s final games as the league comes to a close this week.
