Milutin Sredojevic’s decision follows the Soweto giants’ 3-0 defeat at the hands of SuperSport United on Wednesday.
“The club would like to place on record that this decision was taken unilaterally, and it was the management’s decision to accept Mr Sredojevic to vacate his position based on reasons he has presented which are of a personal nature,” Pirates said via a statement released on their official website.
Pirates added that Rhulani Mokwena would assume coaching responsibilities assisted by Fadlu Davids and Franck Plaine.
Following their impressive 3-1 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in the opening match of the new Absa Premiership season, the Buccaneers went on to lose back-to-back matches against Zambian side Green Eagles in the CAF Champions League, and against SuperSport United in the league.
Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic has stepped down
With the Soweto giants finalising their preparations for Saturday’s MTN8 quarter-final match against Highlands Park, Mokwena has admitted that Bucs ‘underperformed’ in their last two matches.
“There is no running away from the fact that we have underperformed in the last two matches we have played,” the Pirates assistant coach told Pirates’ official website.
“As I said following our defeat (to SuperSport United), our supporters deserve better from a team like ours and for that reason we have to double our efforts to ensure we get a favourable result on Saturday,” he added.
