Paul Pogba: Juventus Midfielder Faces Provisional Suspension Amid Anti-Doping Allegations.

Revised Article: “Paul Pogba: Juventus Midfielder Faces Provisional Suspension Over Anti-Doping Inquiry”

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is currently facing a provisional suspension due to an ongoing anti-doping investigation. The Italy National Anti-Doping Tribunal (Nado) disclosed that Pogba’s post-match drug test after Juventus’ 3-0 victory against Udinese on August 20th revealed elevated levels of testosterone.

Despite being an unused substitute during that match, Pogba was selected at random for post-match drug testing, leading to this development. If found guilty of doping, the 30-year-old French international could potentially face a ban ranging from two to four years.

Juventus issued an official statement on the matter, saying, “Juventus Football Club announces that today, on September 11, 2023, footballer Paul Labile Pogba received a precautionary suspension order from the National Anti-Doping Tribunal following the results of tests carried out on August 20, 2023. The club reserves the right to consider the next procedural steps.”

Nado has alleged that Pogba violated anti-doping regulations by testing positive for “non-endogenous testosterone metabolites,” suggesting an exogenous source of the prohibited substance. Testosterone is a hormone known to enhance athletes’ endurance.

Pogba now has a three-day window to provide a counter-analysis of the test results to Nado, which will play a crucial role in determining his fate.

The French midfielder made a high-profile return to Juventus in July 2022, signing a four-year contract after leaving Manchester United as a free agent. However, his time back in Turin has been plagued by persistent injury concerns, which also caused him to miss the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In the current season, Pogba has played only 51 minutes as a substitute across matches against Bologna and Empoli. In the previous season, he managed a total of 162 minutes of playing time, spread across Serie A, Europa League, and Coppa Italia fixtures, without registering any goals.
