Exploring Possibilities: Tottenham Contemplates Loan Deal for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku, Amid Hesitation Over Permanent Transfer for 30-Year-Old Striker
Tottenham’s Loan Interest in Romelu Lukaku Amidst Uncertainty Over Permanent Transfer
Tottenham is contemplating a loan move for Romelu Lukaku, the Belgian striker who, despite being Chelsea’s record signing just two years ago, has somewhat faded from the spotlight at Stamford Bridge. Lukaku spent the previous season on loan at Inter Milan and was expected to make a permanent move, but his reported preference for a switch to rival Juventus did not sit well with fans.
Since returning to Chelsea, Lukaku has been training in isolation, with manager Mauricio Pochettino making it clear that the striker is not part of the club’s current plans. However, recent reports from Italy suggest that Lukaku might still find himself in the Premier League this season.
According to Tutto Mercato, Spurs have expressed interest in securing a loan deal for the 30-year-old forward. Daniel Levy, Tottenham’s chairman, appears hesitant to commit to a permanent transfer for a player who has already reached 30.

Furthermore, reports indicate that Spurs consider Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun as their preferred option for the striker position, given his youth. However, they may miss out on him due to reported links with Monaco.
After the departure of long-time Spurs icon Harry Kane to Bayern Munich earlier this month, there was an expectation that Spurs would swiftly reinvest the funds from his transfer into a like-for-like replacement. However, manager Ange Postecoglou has emphasized that his current priority is to offload surplus players from the squad.
“We can’t just keep acquiring players when we’ve got too big of a squad as it is at the moment,” said Postecoglou. “It affects your training, it affects players themselves because ultimately they want to play and be involved. It’s not so much one has to happen for the other, but our focus at the moment is to try to trim the squad down and then see where that takes us in terms of reinforcements.”
Postecoglou also noted that they are continuously evaluating the situation, with two weeks remaining in the transfer window, and anticipates some player movements in the coming days.
