Coach Ernst Middendorp’s mentality should be understood. We believe that some of the players at Kaizer Chiefs do not understand the coach the way he does things . Mr Ernst can do something which was opposed by a thousand people and then by end of the day he ends up proving to them that they are wrong .
If you remember the last Soweto Derby the lineup he used was not favored by many people , despite the pressure from the fans who wanted him to play Itumeling Khune in that game Ernst did the opposite and he did win the game which silenced the entire opposition.
There are many good players Ernst Middendorp made bench warmers . We can talk about Khama Billiat , Itumeleng Khune , siphelele ntshangase and more .
But players like Khama Billiat to be on the bench made a lot of people hate the coach’s style . As you know most good players are not easy to control and also Ernst is a person who knows leadership ,as long as you are a player you can not give him instructions because he is the head coach . You can be Khune or Khama as long as he feels like you cannot be compatible in his style of play you will be benched
“I think sometimes people don’t understand the German mentality, so for me, sometimes coaches are desperate and Ernst Middendorp is like one of those coaches who don’t take any nonsense, he says what he wants and he says what he feels and I think they should respect him for that and if he wins the league, that is going to be something good for Chiefs, for that 50th anniversary,” Bafana Bafana legend, Mark Williams said.
