Manchester United: Jadon Sancho expresses feeling unfairly blamed after being benched.
Jadon Sancho has expressed feeling unfairly singled out for criticism after being excluded from Manchester United’s match against Arsenal, according to manager Erik ten Hag, due to his training performance.
The English forward did not travel with the team to the Emirates Stadium, where United suffered a 3-1 defeat.
Ten Hag stated that Sancho had not met the required performance “standard” to be included in the squad.
Sancho responded on social media, saying, “Please don’t believe everything you read. I will not allow false claims. I have consistently performed well in training this week. I believe there are other undisclosed factors at play here. I’ve felt like a scapegoat for quite some time, which isn’t fair!”
Sancho, 23, joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund for £73 million in 2021. However, he has faced challenges in maintaining consistent form, having scored nine league goals and provided six assists in 58 appearances.

Ten Hag explained his decision to omit Sancho from the squad for the Arsenal game by stating, “Based on his training performances, we decided not to include Jadon. At Manchester United, you must perform at a high level every day, and we have options in the forward line. Therefore, he was not selected for this match.”
Sancho expressed his determination to continue competing for his spot at the club, saying, “My primary goal is to enjoy playing football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect the decisions made by the coaching staff. I am privileged to play alongside exceptional players, and I am grateful for the opportunity. Every week is a challenge, but I will continue to give my all for this club.”
In February, Ten Hag praised Sancho’s return to the Premier League after a period of physical and mental challenges. The winger had spent three months dealing with these issues, with Ten Hag previously stating that he was not physically ready to play. Sancho made his comeback in the EFL Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on February 1, and a week later, he played a crucial role in a Premier League match against Leeds, scoring the equalizing goal in a 2-2 draw.
