Things are not going well for Gavin Hunt and some fans are calling for his resignation but other people say that he needs more time .
“iOpinion yami, let’s be honest, let’s give opinion. Let’s be fair, since the PSL restarted since the lockdown, this current Kaizer Chiefs team haven’t been the same,” Isaacs tells KickOff.com.
“It started with [Ernst] Middendorp there [in the bio-bubble]. Middendorp couldn’t get anything out of the players. So now Gavin Hunt came with high hopes and high energy. You could see the first two games he had lots of energy.
“So Gavin Hunt didn’t make any signings. If you were a new coach you would want to sign at least three or four players that you feel can help you. I’m quite sure Gavin Hunt is not happy with the defensive work of the team. I’m sure he was going into the market and wanted to reinforce that.
“Secondly, it’s not fair to suggest that Gavin must be fired. You can bring anybody in, even the most successful coach Chiefs ever had, you can’t blame the coach because this generation of Chiefs players are a different bunch of players. Let’s be honest.
“You cannot sulk at them, they take it personally, they can underperform. Some of the player’s advisors will tell them, ‘You know what, even if you do whatever you need to do, the club still has to pay you out.’ Which is a wrong attitude to have.”
Issacs continues: “Mr Kaizer Motaung is a man that understands football inside out, he knows that Gavin needs time. He needs a signing, he needs a transfer window and he needs time to prove himself what he can do. Remember, Kaizer is the one who signed Gavin Hunt. So Kaizer will support him, and when Kaizer signed him he said he will give the utmost support to Gavin Hunt.
“So you tell me exactly now, how are you going to fire Gavin Hunt when he didn’t sign anybody? My only fear is, who is Gavin Hunt going to sign? Because the [cream of the] crop of South African football is already on contract somewhere else.
“Pirates have signed a couple of players from Wits. And who is really going to shine, and who is going to be up for the pressure that is at Kaizer Chiefs? Playing for Chiefs you have to be mentally strong. I can tell you now, Gavin Hunt never ever thought he would be under such pressure in his life.”
“All I can say is Steve Komphela got given three years, I think Hunt should be given three years at Chiefs, it’s all I can say,” Tovey says.
“Look, we all know the hassles, he can’t sign players and all that, so I don’t know. Let Chiefs get over that and take it from there you know.”
