Khama Billiat almost joined Manchester United. This is a story many of us did not know , well it is not that late for us to know. Yes it is true Manchester United were interested in Khama Billiat by the time he was still at Ajax Cape Town Football Club.

Manchester United were closely monitoring Khama Billiat but his luck of consistency failed him . If you watch the video below you will see how difficult it was for Manchester United defense to defend against Khama Billiat.

Rio Ferdinand  said

“If they are really youngsters, they have quite a few of really good players. Their two centre halves (Nazeer Allie and Matthew Booth), but their number 11 (Khama Billiat) is their most exciting player for me,” Ferdinand told a South African football website Football411.com after the match.

“He is good when in position, good ball control and a can use his speed really well. Overall, an exciting player.”

“We also had a perfect relationship with Ajax Amsterdam, who came to scout for players from our team. We had a very good nursery for players at Ajax Cape Town and Khama was one of the most exciting prospects,” Comitis told The Sunday Mail.

“That relationship we had with Ajax Amsterdam allowed Thulani Serero to have a trial with the Dutch giants after we had done well in the 2010/2011 season, in which we finished second behind Orlando Pirates.

“Thulani had a phenomenal season. He was voted Player of the Year and was subsequently invited for trials at Ajax Amsterdam. That’s how he got there.

“Unfortunately for Billiat, at that time Serero was the star, and he went to Amsterdam ahead of Khama. But we were pretty sure he was one for the future.

“So, when Thulani left, Khama stepped up to the podium. But, we eventually sold our shares in the team to other guys in 2012 and unfortunately, they didn’t have that good link with Ajax Amsterdam and they ended up selling Khama to Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I personally think Khama could have played overseas; he is a quality player. He was phenomenal. He was a fantastic kid, very good in the change room and someone who loved to get all the attention which was a sign of a good striker.”

“I remember having a very good conversation about Billiat with Bryan Robson, who was then a scout at Manchester United when they came down here for a friendly match with our team,” said Comitis.

“They were impressed by Billiat and only wanted to see if his goal-scoring ability would improve. They were concerned with how good he was when it came to putting the ball into the net regularly.

“At that time, he wasn’t scoring as much as he went on to do later in his career. He was still young and sometimes lacked that consistency, which these Manchester United guys were searching for. He was eventually sold to Sundowns, which I think was a very good move.”

We can see all off that but I personally believe that all the decision was from God that Khama will play only in South Africa. Everyone know how hardworking is Billiat Khama.

Why doesn’t Billiat Khama play for Bafana Bafana

He had a very good time at Mamelodi Sundowns but at Chiefs things changed and you know that also age is attacking him so there are a lot of factors which are connected to his decline in form.

Khama Billiat first played for CAPS United FC under coach Lloyd Chitembwe in 2010. He featured for only 15 minutes at Rufaro Stadium, before migrating to South Africa. His stint at the Harare giants, lasted 3 months.

After that he joined AJax Cape Town and Khama Billiat made his professional debut for Ajax Cape Town on 20 August 2010 against Mamelodi Sundowns, winning (4–3) on penalties after a 1–1 draw. This was a very good game for Khama Billiat maybe it is the game which made Mamelodi Sundowns to buy him who knows.

Before he joined Mamelodi Sundowns Billiat Khama went to a trial with Lokomotiv Moscow in July 2013 in Russia but he ended up Joining Mamelodi Sundowns
