“It is that time of the year again where great soccer teams in Mzansi take on each other in true Wafa Wafa style for the glory of being crowned the MTN8 champions, a time that football fans look forward to each year.
Irrespective of the challenges we might be experiencing with the various lockdown levels, the spirit of Wafa Wafa lives on! It is the love of the game, the vibe, the energy, the banter, the passion, the connections, the moments, the rivalry, the wins, the losses, the highs, the lows. They don’t live in the stadium; they live in us! It is this spirit that will ensure we remain socially connected, even if we are physically apart”, said Nomsa Mazibuko, GM Brand & Communications at MTN SA.
Baxter confirmed ahead of the game: “In terms of the injuries, we’ve got a couple of them getting back, Lebo Manyama did his first training the other day.
“We’ve got the ones that are injured long-term, [Leonardo] Castro, [Dumisani] Zuma. Lebo Manyama was one of them who did his first training with the team, proper football training.
“It doesn’t mean he’s fit, but just fit to take part in training for the process to get himself match fit now.”
“We’ve got a couple of others who’ve come back but were at the Olympics, they’ve got to slowly get back in things,” Baxter added. “So we do have our injuries but at the same time, we have the players who’ve been taking part in training.
“Those are probably going to select the team from because we know they have enough training in their legs, enough rest and enough structural training. I can’t see any huge surprises that you see someone playing that you haven’t seen in three or four months.”
“On Hlompho, he is still with us. We love him, he is our legend, our captain. He had a very good pre-season training,” Mngqithi told the media.
“He has good leadership skills and all is looking positive but the only part that is always going to be an issue is the number of games he got last season compared to the number of games he is likely to get this season, and that is a very serious catch-22 situation because we like him and we are happy with him.
“But what if he does not want to play fewer games? Because the truth of the matter is, it’s not about us only, it’s also about him,” added Mngqithi.
“If he wants to stay and help us in the changeroom [then he can stay]. He is a very important player,” continued Mngqithi.
“But the truth of the matter is that, at this stage, as a club we are happy with him and we are also wary of his wishes as well.”
“We will have to listen to him. Whatever comes from him, we will take it very seriously but he has to be treated with a lot of respect because he has served the club,” he explained.
“He is probably one captain who has lifted more trophies than any other captain of the club,” concluded Mngqithi.
“Chiefs made good signings, it will change the spirit in their changing room as players will now compete and want to impress the coach,” Ntshangase tells the Siya crew.
“I see them doing well this season even though it may take some time to get the combinations right.”
“I think Mamelodi Sundowns will have an upper hand on this game, they’ve been together for a while compared to this Kaizer Chiefs side.”
“It going to be a very good game and Sundowns will win this game, they dominated 28 games last season and I don’t think Chiefs will stop them despite having new signings.”
