Contentious social media influencer Andrew Tate has been released from confinement in Romania while awaiting his trial on charges of rape and human trafficking.

In March, Andrew and his brother Tristan were apprehended, and the charges were formally filed in June. Both brothers maintain their innocence.

As per the court’s ruling, they are now permitted to move freely within Bucharest, the capital city, and the neighboring Ilfov district, where they reside. However, they are required to report to the police whenever instructed and promptly inform them of any change in their address.

In addition, the two are prohibited from communicating with their two Romanian associates who are also facing charges, the witnesses involved in the case, and the alleged victims and their families. Non-compliance with these regulations could result in their return to house arrest or preventive detention.

For the next 60 days, a judge will assess their adherence to the set conditions.

Following the court’s decision, a spokesperson for the Tate brothers expressed gratitude to the Romanian judicial system for its impartial review and expressed optimism for more favorable developments ahead.

In response to the ruling, Andrew Tate, who now identifies as a Muslim convert, took to Twitter to denounce the charges as baseless and referred to a judge who had deemed them as “weak and circumstantial.”

The initial arrest occurred in December when authorities apprehended the brothers at their residence, but they were later placed under house arrest three months later.

According to the indictment, Andrew and Tristan, along with two female Romanian accomplices, allegedly established an organized criminal group in 2021 with the purpose of engaging in human trafficking not only in Romania but also in other countries, including the US and the UK. The indictment cites seven purported victims who were reportedly lured into the group through false promises of love and marriage.

Andrew Tate gained notoriety in 2016 when he was removed from the British TV show Big Brother due to a video that appeared to show him attacking a woman. Subsequently, he gained a controversial online presence, leading Twitter to temporarily ban him for expressing controversial views about women and sexual assault. However, his account has since been reinstated.
