The way football is played today is the same as it was a twenty years ago. With the rise of the world of smart technology like smart sensors and adidas smartball, we believe it is necessary to bring a change to the way the game is played, especially in important decisions in a match like offside which can cost a team Amazulu goals or even the match. We understand there are FIFA regulations in bringing technology to the game but even if it is not permitted to be used in the real game then it can definitely be used for the training of the players so that they can practice offside traps and hence can be a marketable product.
There are flaws in VAR that mean not every offside decision will be correct but if you watched the game between Kaizer Chiefs and Amazulu Yesterday you could support the idea of VAR . Amazulu scored two beautiful goals both which were rejected because of the assistant referee’s mistakes. Kaizer Chiefs ended up wining the game by beating Amazulu 2 to 0 . I believe South African football association should consider using technology to minimize on the chances of making mistakes like the ones we saw in the game yesterday .Some soccer fans insist the technology being used gives almost 100 per cent certainty in tight offside decision . But some still say the technology is simply not advanced enough to get every decision to be correct.
The laws state that a player is deemed on or offside at ‘the first point of contact’ when the ball is played. The fact is that if we really following these laws , both decisions the assistant referee made yesterday were wrong and I believe VAR could help us .
Do you think we should use VAR ?
