Why Percy Tau and KhamaBilliat were the backbone to Mamelodi Sundowns? There is a famous saying within the fanbase of most rich football clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns that ‘no player is bigger than the club’. Indeed, players cannot be bigger than clubs, but there can be no denying of the fact that clubs are sometimes dependent on some players.
Mamelodi Sundowns there is a period when they dominated Africa and South African football but that was when Percy Tau and Khama Billiat were still at Downs .The departure of the two superstars made things change at Mamelodi Sundowns and the club is currently struggling a bit . I agree that Percy Tau and Khama Billiat were not the only star players at Mamelodi Sundonws but they used to be more important than other players.
Mamelodi Sundowns can deny all they want, but for these two players who scored a lot goals in a short period of time , their impact can never be downplayed. The recent struggles of Sundonws, though, is a testament to the fact that the club is missing the goals that Percy and Billiat used to provide willfully.
There are those who believe that Tau and Belliat were all about the goals but, in truth, they were more than just that in the Mamelodi Sundowns team. The two superstars has a winning mentality which rubbed off all their teammates. The team currently lacks that.
Mamelodi Sundowns still boasts a lot of talented players, but without the effectiveness that the pair were bringing , there is bound to be a regression as we’ve all seen in these past months. Remember during the 2017–18 season, Tau scored 11 goals to help Mamelodi Sundowns to the league title.
Khama Billiat in 99 matches between 2013 and 2018 he managed to score for Mamelodi Sundowns 39 goals , that was incredible .In 2016 Khama Billiat won the Absa Premiership Footballer of the Year award.
